About the event
For May in conjunction with AAPI, we are featuring the 10 AAPI women’s leaders in our community as our mentors. Hosted at an AAPI women-owned business - Bombay Kitchen, AAPI is not only a celebration of history and the past but also celebrates the present and the future. This month, in conjunction with AAPI we will celebrate and recognize the historical and cultural contributions of individuals and groups of Asian and Pacific Islander descent to the United States.
History: In 1992, the official designation of May as Asian Pacific American Heritage Month (AAPI) was signed into law. The month of May was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869.
