October is National Women's Small Business Month, and we want to highlight Jennifer Hill, owner of Jen Hill Organizing! Thanks to Jen’s guidance and support earlier this year, Women of Toledo is more organized and better equipped to achieve our goals. Her story is a beautiful example of how following your passions—no matter the path—can lead to meaningful impact. This is #HerStory.
Jen’s Journey: From Teacher to Professional Organizer
If you had told my younger self that I’d start my own organizing business at 36, I wouldn’t have believed you. I always thought I’d be a teacher. As a kid, I played school, loved helping teachers, and worked in education-based roles. So, how did I end up here?
After graduating with a degree in education, I landed a job at an online charter school. But after several years, I felt the need for change. I tried something new, working part-time with the Toledo Walleye hockey team, which led to a full-time role with the Mud Hens and Walleye in their ticketing department. I spent six years there, building skills in management, business operations, and hiring—all experiences that prepared me for the next chapter.
Through it all, I realized that my love of organization, structure, and processes was not something everyone naturally possessed. When I knew it was time to start a new career, I wanted something flexible, challenging, and fulfilling. That’s how I became a Professional Organizer.
On paper, my path may not seem logical. But I share my story because it shows that:
It’s never too late to try something new, even if it doesn’t fit others’ expectations.
Opportunities along the way build valuable skills that can shape your future.
When you share your talents, you improve the lives of those around you.
Even if the end result looks different, the mission can remain the same.
In a way, I did become a teacher—just in a different role. Now, I teach organization as a life skill to reduce stress and improve daily function, both at home and at work.
Jen's Advice for Aspiring Entrepreneurs
"Surround yourself with the type of success you want to achieve—your circle matters. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or seek help. And take every opportunity to learn skills outside your comfort zone because you never know how they might help you later."
Jen’s Testimonial: A Solopreneur’s Perspective
"Being an entrepreneur can be tough and lonely, especially as a solopreneur. But whenever
I walk into an event with Women of Toledo, I know I’m surrounded by women who are here to support me—and whom I can support in return."
We’re grateful to Jen for helping us lay a strong foundation as we continue empowering women and fostering growth in our community. And we can’t wait to see her at our future events—especially if there’s a clever pun involved!
Thank you, Jen, for sharing your talents and making a difference in the lives of so many!
