My name is Jackelyn Lee and I am 24 years-old. Growing up in Wickliffe, a small suburb of Cleveland, making Toledo my home was a thought that never crossed my mind. However, while attending Bowling Green State University, I fell in love with the small town-big city feel of this area. My husband Andrew and I have a passion for our Toledo community, finding fulfillment in being active members of Cedar Creek parish, attending local concerts, and taking our Chihuahua Dolly for walks in our friendly neighborhood.
As an ambitious first-generation college student, I wanted to prove to myself that with hard work, dedication, and a little bit of sacrifice, anything is possible. I began my career with Liberty Mutual while still in college, and while most of my friends were still trying to figure out what they wanted to do after they graduated, I knew I was exactly where I was supposed to be.
Even though I graduated with my marketing degree, sales had always been a passion of mine. Being in sales allowed me to build relationships with dozens of individuals in the Toledo community, and by truly listening to what their needs are, I am able to create solutions that fit them best. I especially enjoy helping first time home buyers with their buying decisions and choosing insurance policies that meets their needs and their budget.
Liberty Mutual took a chance on me as a young college student, and I wanted to prove, especially being the only female in the office, that neither age nor gender hinders performance. I knew if I did my best, I could be the best. My hard work paid off when at the end of 2017, just a few months out of college, I was named Rookie of the Year. I set high goals and expectations for myself, and my belief in my own abilities allowed me to get to where I am today in such a short amount of time.
Even though insurance has always been a male dominated industry, I am proud to say that Liberty Mutual Insurance was recently named one of the Best Employers for Women. In just a few weeks I will be attending a leadership summit for women where I will be speaking to college students at the University of Houston. I am honored for the opportunity to share my story to women whose shoes I was in just a short time ago. I am hoping my story will show them that it is possible to achieve anything you desire, as long as you set goals and have a plan to execute them.
Women all over the world need organizations like Women of Toledo to provide them with the confidence and resources they need to feel empowered to work hard and set goals to achieve their dreams. I love that Women of Toledo focuses on building relationships along the way, because there is only so much that you can do alone. There are so many people that I couldn’t have done this without – and I am passionate about being a mentor to other women in our community and helping them with their journey.
